We are facing a climate change emergency and like all sectors of the economy, tourism needs to do its part in helping Ireland meet its climate change target. Doing this will require significant changes to all aspects of tourism. But in addition to the challenges, there are also opportunities to provide a truly sustainable tourism offering.
Fáilte Ireland has called out Driving Climate Action as a Strategic Priority. Driving Climate Action aims to drive change at business and destination level, to deliver on the targets set by Government and to ensure tourism plays its part in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
This suite of resources for hotels and guesthouses explains sustainable tourism and in particular, sets out the area of climate action required to reduce carbon emissions. It focuses on priority areas, explaining the terminology and provides practical tips as well as advice on how to start and progress your journey.
