A national carbon footprint benchmark will take time to generate as we build a robust database of metrics from Irish tourism businesses. However, in the interim, Fáilte Ireland has sourced climate-zone appropriate and sector-specific international tourism benchmarks, based on over 20 years of certification data from EarthCheck, one of the world’s leading scientific benchmarking certification and advisory groups for sustainable travel and tourism.
International benchmarks are available for the following business types: Hotels, Guesthouses, Bed & Breakfasts, Caravan & Camping Sites, Hostels, Self-catering Properties, Visitor Attractions, Activity Providers, Restaurants & Pubs serving food and Inbound Tour Operators/DMCs/PCOs (for administration offices).
How do I get a benchmark for my business?
Before you start, you will need some additional pieces of information.
All businesses: total floor area of business building/s in m2
For the same 12-month period you used in the carbon calculator:
- Accommodation Providers: total guest nights
- Attractions & Activity Providers: total visitors
- Restaurants & Pubs serving food: total covers
